SISTER Margaret Mary Daly from Killarney celebrated her 100th birthday on Thursday last in Austin, Texas. Sister Margaret was honoured at the Irish Embassy in Austin where she was presented with a letter and monetary gift from the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins.

The Irish Consul, in his remarks on Sister Margaret’s 100 years of life and service, spoke of the many historical events, both national and international, that were part of her lifetime experience.

He also commented on her WWII experiences and of her having to travel to USA by the German Ship, SS Berlin.

He then read the letter from President Michael Higgins and awarded the monetary gift for her 100th Birthday. Sister Margaret Mary was overcome with joy and gratitude at the outpouring of love and appreciation on behalf of the Irish President and Irish people.
