RUNNERS WAX LYRICAL ABOUT KERRY ON 2,000-MILE IRISH TRIP

TWO runners on a 2,000-mile round trip along the Irish coastline have reserved special praise for the people and scenery of the Kingdom.

Simon Clark from Birmingham and Rachel Winter from Perth set off on their trip on August 7 and are currently about 1,000 miles into their run all around Ireland. They have spent the last few weeks enjoying all the beauty that Kerry has to offer.

Carrying only the clothes on their back and only a few supplies in their rucksacks, the pair stopped of at The Kerryman offices on Thursday, where they spoke to us about their favourite moments from their trip around the county.

“One of my favourite bits was the Skellig Chocolate Factory. A whole counter of chocolate, and they chopped up about 40 different types – and then you get to taste them. You must go there!” Rachel laughed.

“They were really kind to us there, which was lovely. All the scenery that we have seen here has been amazing.

“The Skelligs are just magnetic when you look at them, we’ll definitely be back to see them next year,” she said.

From praising their moonlit walks on Derrynane beach to traversing the majestic Iveragh Peninsula, Simon and Rachel said that their time in the Kingdom will live long in the memory.

The pair are undertaking this epic challenge to help raise funds for their chosen charity of Ecologia Youth Trust, a char- ity that works with vulnerable youngsters facing their own tough challenges in Kenya, Uganda, Russia, and Scotland.

So far, over £1,160 out of their £10,000 goal has been raised; anyone looking to donate to their charity can do so through the link on ‘The Kerryman’ Facebook page.
