It’s free, it’s fun, it’s the Christmas Parkrun ....

-

TRALEE Town Park has always been a wonderful place to be but ever since Tralee parkrun hit the ground running it’s been the place to be on Saturday mornings. Just because it’s Christmas it doesn’t mean you have to put away those running shoes - far from it. The ever popular parkrun recently completed its 200th run and this Christmas it promises to be another tour de force. There’s a run in the park at 9:30am on Christmas Day (you can also dress up in some festive wear if a sense of occasion is your thing!).

The focus then shifts to New Year’s Day, which is the only time runners have the option of running in two parkruns in one day. Basically, it’s an opportunity to run in Listowel Town Park at 9am and in Tralee Town Park at 11am. It’s a chance to complete this double with family and friends while you discuss all those New Year’s resolutions! “It was a great success last year with huge numbers doing both events. Last year also marked our first Christmas Day run,” said Caroline Lynch.

“It’s a great time of year to have a run. The sense of camaraderie is great and everyone is in fun form. It’s just brilliant for everyone’s self-esteem and people feel so good mentally and physically after the run. It’s also a free event that is run completely by volunteers. We’re very lucky with this support.”

A Christmas run in the park is also a great alternative for people who don’t really fancy a cold water swim on Christmas morning. It’s fun, it’s free and it’s a good activity to build around your Christmas holiday. Check out Tralee parkrun’s Facebook page for updates.
