FR. GALVIN CUP: Fans were treated to a classic in the Fitzgerald stadium on Sunday in the Fr Galvin Cup final between local rivals, Fossa and Listry. Listry got a dream start with a well taken goal from Ronan Buckley, however Tadhg O’Shea was unerring all day and he brought Fossa back into this game with a brace of frees. The game ebbed and flowed with neither side able to gain complete dominance, Paudie Clifford and Tadhg O’Shea kept the scoreboard ticking and Fossa were in front at the break, 0-8 to 1-4. Again Listry started the second half well and they scored their second goal after 4 minutes from Aaron McCarthy but it was that man again, Tadhg O’Shea who steadied the Fossa ship with a couple of frees. Fossa never gave up, Colin Myers pulled off a couple of outstanding saves which kept us in the game. Coming down the final stretch and with the game really in the melting pot, Listry were two points up with 3 minutes left in the clock, up steps Paudie Clifford to land a brilliant ‘45’ and then Tadhg O’Shea kicked a screamer of a point from distance which was worthy of this fabled ground to tie the game and leave us facing extra time. Listry outscored Fossa 0-3 to 0-2 in the first period of extra time to lead at the break but again Fossa dug deep with every man giving their all, to a man they stood up and were counted all over the pitch and scores from Paudie Clifford and Tadhg O’Shea had Fossa in front with time almost up. Listry didn’t give up and secured a draw with a point in the final minute to force a replay, in truth neither team deserved to lose this game as both sides gave a wholehearted, honest display of football and deserved another carck at it. Final score Fossa 0-20, Listry 2-14. CONGRATULATIONS to Tommy Cronin who was this week elected as Chairman of Coiste na nÓg Chiarraí. This is a huge honour for Tommy and he is the first Fossa man to hold a position of this nature at County Board level. He has very successfully served almost every position at club level and we wish him every success in his new position on the County Board.
