Another successful year for Cahersiveen Tidy Town Committee...

-

ONE of the main identifiers of a locality’s pride in its surrounds is its participation in the national Tidy Towns event. Cahersiveen is no exception in this regard as it continues to demonstrate its commitment to the cause.

Lisa O’Shea is Chairperson of the Cahersiveen Tidy Town Committee and she praised the hardworking committee on the ground. The strategy of assigning people to tidy their own specific areas is a good one as this way the entire area interlinks. This is a much better tactic than simply everyone gathering together in one large group covering roughly the same space. This also ensures that Cahersiveen is kept constantly tidy at alternating times throughout the week.

In 2017 Cahersiveen Tidy Town jumped an impressive 11 points in the National Tidy Town Awards. In 2018 it went up another impressive 7 points. This is proof positive of their dedication and willingness to keep on improving.

The logistics involved in organising the annual Halloween, St Patrick’s Day Parade and Christmas celebrations in Cahersiveen is also leaning more towards implementing a ‘Green’ approach through recycling. This is proving to be a major attitude adjuster with people, especially with children who are learning the concept of recycling early in life.

Lisa would like to see the introduction of a recycling vending machine service similar to those found elsewhere in Europe. People can swipe their card and avail of discounts in their shopping. It would serve as an extra incentive or reward for recycling.

“Overall we’re very happy with the effort of everyone involved with Cahersiveen Tidy Town. It’s nothing without the community effort and we’re always looking for new members to get involved and help us make Cahersiveen look the best it can be. There is a great sense of civic pride involved,” said Lisa.

Christmas Raffle! Cahersiveen Tidy Towns are currently hosting a raffle in which a trip to Fota Wildlife Park to meet Santa for a family of four is the fabulous prize. You can by lines on December 8 with the raffle taking place later that day.
