Ring of Beara Cycle continues to excel
ONE of Ireland’s most popular cycling events - The Ring of Beara Cycle Kenmare – will return for a fifth-year on Saturday 26 May 2019. The event sold-out in a matter of hours in September with many participants returning year on year to take on the challenging and undulating route around the Beara Peninsula.
The popularity of the event is testament to the great show that is put on by the people in Kenmare and around the scenic route. Cyclists wind their way through charming, picturesque villages like Ardgroom Eyeries and Allihies; while Castletownbere plays host to the biggest party on route with live music and entertainment throughout the course of the day and a libation or two for those feeling brave.
More than 4,200 cyclists took part in 2018 with similar numbers expected in 2019. Not only does the event make a significant and positive impact on the local economy it also has the added advantage of helping to support local charities each year. In 2018 this figure stood at €53,000, which saw six local charities benefit.
Famed for its after-party atmosphere that extends from the finish line well into Sunday morning, the Ring of Beara Cycle Kenmare has established itself as a bucket-list experience in Ireland. For those missing out this year there may be another chance for a similar experience as the producers of the event, Elite Event Management, unveil a new cycle ‘Ride Dingle’ for 2019. This inaugural event takes place on Saturday 27 April with options of a 55km or 120km route that takes in the epic Slea Head and Conor Pass - Ireland’s highest mountain pass.
