The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

West Kerry and its food to take centre stage on TG4 show ‘Blasta’ tonight

- By TADHG EVANS

WEST KERRY is no stranger to television screens – and this week, three local women will appear on TG4 show ‘Blasta’.

The TV series has been travelling around the country, and its contributors have taken viewers through recipes entwined with localities’ food heritage and history.

Tonight (December 5) at 8.30pm, TG4 will screen its visit to the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht – and viewers can look forward to delving into the knowledge and cookery expertise of Deirdre Flannery, Eibhlín Ní Chearna, and Áine Delaney.

The series addresses how ‘passed-on recipes’ are close to extinction in today’s digital age, with recipes increasingly imported from other cultures instead.

The west Kerry episode of the series goes from picking shellfish to serving up ‘spotted dog’ cake, with the famous Dick Mack’s bar taking centre stage.
