Kerry folk win big on Winning Streak

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

IT’LL be a happy Christmas for two Kerry people after they won €61,000 between them on Winning Streak last Saturday.

Mark Sugrue, a barman from Castleisland, won €33,000, which included a car worth €25,000 and €8,000 in cash.

Garda David Morris, who lives in Cromane, won a total of €28,000 in cash when he played the gameshow on behalf of his sister, Anne, who lives in Dublin.

Mark, a 10-year bartending veteran, currently works in Kearney’s bar in Castleisland and was supported in the audience by his boss, Betty O’Connell, as he stormed home to collect his substantial winnings.

Mark is one of three children – he has two sisters, Lorraine and Leanne – who also supported him in studio, along with their parents, Maura and Denis.

After the show, the family had a double celebration as Mark’s Winning Streak-mad grandmother, Lil, marked her birthday.

There’ll be no shortage of cheer and goodwill in the Morris household either as Garda Morris – whose beat is in the Portmagee and Valentia area – won €28,000 on behalf of his sister, Anne.

Dave was with Anne when she got a call last Saturday evening. Lo and behold, it was a call to say that she had been chosen to appear on Winning Streak. In the midst of all the celebrations, Anne realised that she was to travel to New York city a couple of days later for a shopping trip with her daughter, Ellie.

All eyes then turned to Dave, who stepped up to the plate and won the fantastic amount.
