Munster soccer success for Community College under-19s
A MUNSTER U-19 John Murphy Schools Soccer Cup Quarter Final against Buttavent awaits the Castleisland Community College team after their recent defeat of Desmond College, Newcastle West, in the West Limerick team’s home venue.
The following is a Castleisland Community College report
“A lovely winter’s morning in Newcastle West allowed the fixture to go ahead after it was called off in Kerry due to an orange weather warning.
“Having finished second in the group stages – beating ISK. Killorglin 3-2 and losing 2-1 to Millstreet CS – we were missing star men, Ben Cooney and Adam O’ Donoghue.
Having them back on Monday for this important game was, of course, a great boost.
“Desmond College topped their group with wins over St Pats, Castleisland and Askeaton CS on their way to this last-16 round and were hot favourites to progress from this game.
“The game was a very tight affair in the first half, with Adam O’Donoghue having scored a screamer from outside the box after a tasty first touch, teeing it up to lash it into the top right-hand corner of the net.
“Having saved Ben Cooney in reserve, Ben came on and helped solidify the Castleisland attack, getting in on the scoring sheet himself after a long injury lay-off.
“Captain Eamon Nolan was outstanding all afternoon, pulling the strings to score one and win a penalty for the Castleisland cause.
“What was really nice to see was such a spread of attacking threat up front from all the goal scorers, which did Castleisland CC and AFC proud.
“With the new AstroTurf facility ready pre-Christmas – this symbiotic relationship is set to prosper I’m sure into the future. Well done Boys! The Munster quarter final against Buttevant now awaits.”
