Lots of choice and shopping bargains to spice up Christmas in Milltown

-

SHOPPING local at Christmas is not just a rewarding way of supporting jobs in the community, it’s also about choice and bargains. There is no shortage of shops in Milltown who are stocked and ready to meet consumer demand this year. The town itself emits a wonderful festive atmosphere as shops, pubs and restaurants make a big effort to welcome Christmas to Milltown.

The local Farmers’ Market in the Old Church takes place every Saturday morning throughout the year (10am to 2pm). But it’s at Christmas time when it creates an extra special atmosphere.

Milltown is a focal point for locally sourced and prepared food and crafts the whole year round, but December is a special time in Milltown

As well as the local shops, the Christmas market supply an extensive range of organic food; a wonderful selection of locally made cheeses, breads, vegetarian options, chutneys, meats, chickens and festive turkeys, homemade Christmas cakes and puddings, jewellery, pottery, sculpted gifts, arts and crafts, you name, they’ve got it. The market has developed a solid international dimension in recent years with traditional produce and food from of all over the world created and sold right here in Kerry.

This Saturday (the 15) and December 22 are the last markets before Christmas so there is still time to sample the atmosphere and buy something special for the Christmas. Wilma Silvius O’Connor has been involved in the Milltown Market for many years and she is looking forward to another festive build up at the Old Church.

“There is a wide selection of festive foods available that will add real quality to your festive feast. People support our market all year but Christmas is a bit more special. It’s a time when we want to enjoy that bit extra in terms of quality. There is still two Saturdays left before Christmas, so be sure to pay us a visit,” said Wilma. The Milltown Christmas Market will be held on December 15 and 22. The market re-opens again on January 5. Check out the Milltown Farmers Market Facebook page for regular updates.
