Listry win East Kerry Intermedia­te title in replay win over Fossa

FR GALVIN CUP FINAL REPLAY Listry 1-12 Fossa 0-12

THIS replay of the Fr Galvin Cup, East Kerry Intermedia­te Championsh­ip, proved just as closely contested and exciting a game as the final a week previously, that ended in a draw, after extra time.

Listry and Fossa served up a good game of football and Listry came out on top, the winning margin a fortuitous goal. Played in a windy conditions at Dr Crokes pitch, Lewis road, the result of the game was in doubt to the very last kick. Anthony Sweeney opened the Listry account. Tadgh O’Shea replied for Fossa.

It was tit for tat. Anthony Sweeney and Derry Ahern for Listry. Fossa replied with points from Tadgh O’Shea and Fintan Coffey. Exchanges between both teams were very tight at this stage of the game and further points from Antony Sweeney and Gary O’Sullivan put Listry ahead.

Fossa replied with points from Fintan Coffey and a point from Domhnaill O’Sullivan. Listry finished off the half with a point from Anthony Sweeney leaving the half time score Fossa 0-7 Listry 0-5.

Fossa took control at the start of the second half with points from Fintan Coffey, Tadgh O’Shea(2) and Paudie Clifford. Listry weathered the storm and got to grips with midfield again. Points from Derry Ahern and two from Anthony Sweeney saw Listry a point ahead again. The turning pint of the game when Listry were awarded a 45m free. A Ronan Buckley 45 floated into the square and amdist the throng of bodies the ball took an unlucky deflection into the net leaving Listry ahead 1-10 to 0-10. Fossa reduced the margin by further points from Paudie Clifford. However, substitute Paul Darmody had the last say leaving the final score: Listry 1-12 Fossa 0-12.

Chairman of the East Kerry Committee, Johnny Brosnan presented the Father Galvin Cup to Listry captain, Gary O’Sullivan. The man of the match award was presented to Anthony Sweeney of Listry.

THE Sem students do Young Referee course

WELL done to the St Brendan’s College students, Killarney, who have completed a Young Referees course in the school.

Clubs are requested to use these students to referee U-8/U-10 Go Games blitzes in East Kerry during 2019.

Vince Cooper East Kerry/Kenmare GDA will work with all students who want to progress to U-11/U-12 club games in 2019.
