CALL FOR FEASIBILITY STUDY ON SWIMMING POOL
Councillor Michael Cahill has again called on Kerry County Council to carry out a feasibility study at an early date with regards to the provision of a public swimming pool that would service the Killorglin, Mid Kerry, Cahersiveen and Iveragh Peninsula area. The Fianna Fail Councillor requested that the project be included in the County Council’s Tourism Strategy and the Local Economic and Community Plan. The Killorglin Councillor also requested that the proposal be discussed with local schools, business, Kerry ETB, FEXCO and Hoteliers in Mid and South Kerry.
Reply: Kerry County Council has been involved in a number of feasibility studies and developments in other parts of the county in to swimming pools. Not alone is an initial large investment required, the ongoing maintenance and running costs are significant and difficult to sustain. At this time Kerry County Council is not in a position to consider such a development. It is possibly more appropriate that the private sector would develop such a facility complementary to or as as part of a bigger development.
