A MAJOR renovation project at St Joseph’s Home in Killorglin will provide state-of-theart facilities for the residents of the vital care facility in Mid Kerry.

Twenty new rooms have already opened at the Killorglin residential care centre, and works have now been completed on nine new rooms.

This year, work will continue to refurbish the old part of the building, which will include five new rooms and ancillary rooms. The first phase of this work is currently underway.

The work has been undertaken to bring St Joseph’s home up to the required HIQA standards necessary for a modern-day facility.

Currently there are 40 residents living at St Joseph’s home in Killorglin, spanning all of Mid Kerry, and it is hoped to increase this to 46 residents when all the refurbishments are complete, according to Sr Helena.

The million-euro project has been funded by donations and from the Ring of Kerry cycle, and a huge boost, too, has been the annual Dollis Hill fundraising dance organised by Danny Tim O’Sullivan.

The well-known Kerryman has been a long-term supporter of St Joseph’s Home in Killorglin, and this year he has handed over a cheque of €16,500 to St Joseph’s Home in Killorglin thanks to the annual October dance.

Sr Helena said they are grateful for this support.

“It is a wonderful donation. We are so grateful to him and to all his team who helped raised this money,” she said.

Danny Tim said that he could not raise this money without huge support, and he thanked everyone that helped raise the money. “I want to thank everybody who sold tickets and gave donations,” he said.

Danny Tim said that many friends of his ended up at St Joseph’s, so it is a cause close to his heart.
