Killarney star Buckley up for BAFTA Award
KILLARNEY actress Jessie Buckley is up for a top acting gong following her nomination for the EE Rising Star Award at the upcoming BAFTA awards.
The Kerry film star has received huge acclaim for her performance in the British film Beast as well as her role in BBC drama of War and Peace.
She was named as one of prestigious international film industry trade magazine Screen International’s ‘Stars of tommorow’ in 2017.
Current stars previously named on that list include Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, Natalie Dormer and Maisie Williams; Marvel films’ stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland and Tom Hiddleston; and Star Wars actors John Boyega and Felicity Jones.
They all appeared in the prestigious Screen International list shortly before gaining massive international fame. Tom Holland and John Boyega also previously won the Rising Star BAFTA Award.
Jessie has now been announced as one of five finalists for the BAFTA rising star award – the only award judged by the public at the annual film awards.
The Killarney-born actress is also joined on the prestigous nomination list by another Irish film star with Kerry connections. Barry Keoghan, who is best known for his performance in WWII drama Dunkirk, is originally from Dublin but now lives in Beaufort, where his girlfriend is originally from. He also starred in Black 47 and made his debut in Love/Hate.
Also on the list is Cynthia Erivo, who appears in Widows; Lakeith Stanfi from Selma and the TV series Atlanta; and Letitia Wright, who was also in the Marvel Universe movies.
