Helena thanks people of Kerry for support

WITH the arrival of a new year, a Cromane resident has decided to thank the people of Kerry for their support as she looks to fund a radical Lyme disease treatment for her partner.

The story of Tyrone native Paul Doherty’s battle with Lyme disease was first featured in The Kerryman back in October 2018.

Paul has been battling Lyme Disease – which he contracted on a visit to Castlecove in 1989 – for over 30 years now and has suffered a series of serious health setbacks as a result.

“People need to be aware of the reality of this disease and how damaging it can be,” said Helena at the time.

She set up a fundraising page hoping to raise €30,000 to help fund a radical treatment for him in a specialist clinic in Bad Aibling in Germany.

Helena hopes that this treatment will help eliminate or alleviate the Lyme disease within Paul.

Since the initial article in October, Helena’s ‘Go Fund Me’ fundraiser has raised over €7,000, and she wishes to thank all those who have contributed, shared and contacted with support or treatment options they have chosen for their battle with Lyme Disease.

“Everyone out there has helped us to grow the fund to over €7,000, which is amazing. We still have the bones of €23,000 to go,” she said.
