The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Raising a toast to the women of Kerry
IF there is one place that knows how to celebrate tradition in style, it’s Kilflynn village. Fresh from another successful Christmas for the local wren boys, Saturday was the turn of the girls as they made the village a hub of entertainment celebrating Women’s Christmas. Parker’s and Herbert’s Bar jointly host what is arguably one of the best social events in Kilflynn’s calendar year – and the 2019 event certainly lived up to its billing.
Parker’s Bar had plenty of familiar tunes courtesy of local musician Fergus O’Sullivan. And, as is par for the course every Women’s Christmas, Parker’s looked resplendent with its decorations in homage to Women’s Christmas. Some fine food was enjoyed, thanks to Prims catering. And while Women’s Christmas celebrations were in full swing throughout the county on Saturday and Sunday, Kilflynn retains its own unique way of celebrating what is a great tradition.
January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany, is traditionally a well-deserved day of rest for mothers, wives and daughters following a busy Christmas – a time when the menfolk were expected to take over domestic chores!
