Maes on top in Youghal cy­clocross

RICHARD Maes of Kil­lar­ney Cy­cling Club took first place in last Sun­day’s cy­clocross event in Youghal and his club­mate, Matt Slat­tery was third. John Crow­ley also won the over-50 cat­e­gory.

It was the fi­nal event be­fore next Sun­day’s Na­tional Championship to be held at Fota and Richard’s re­cent con­sis­tent se­ries of wins makes him one of the favourites for the podium.

The Kil­lar­ney club will also be hop­ing for a top plac­ing in the team cat­e­gory as they are com­pet­ing with a very strong squad com­pro­mis­ing of Richard Maes, Matt Slat­tery, Paidi O’Brien, Mike Lucey and Conor Kis­sane.

In the over-50 cat­e­gory, John Crow­ley holds the Mun­ster ti­tle and will also be hop­ing for a podium place.

Mike O’Con­nor and Colin Leahy will be com­pet­ing in the over-40 cat­e­gory and in the Youth cat­e­gory the club will be rep­re­sented by Pa­trick Galvin and Eoghan Crow­ley.

Kil­lar­ney Club host­ing a reg­is­tra­tion evening

KIL­LAR­NEY Cy­cling Club will be host­ing their an­nual reg­is­tra­tion event on Wed­nes­day evening in the Dromhall Ho­tel be­tween 8pm and 10pm. This is an ideal op­por­tu­nity for any­one in­ter­ested in get­ting more in­volved in cy­cling dur­ing 2019.

The Kil­lar­ney club is one of the largest in the coun­try and sup­ports cy­clists at ev­ery level. New­comer and leisure cy­clists are made es­pe­cially wel­come and the club’s reg­u­lar spins caters for dif­fer­ent lev­els.

The club also has a very strong rac­ing con­tin­gent in Se­nior, Masters and Youth cat­e­gories.

A lot of em­pha­sis is placed on de­vel­op­ing young rid­ers in ar­eas such as moun­tain bik­ing, road rac­ing and cy­clocross.

Mem­bers of the club will be avail­able at the event to an­swer any queries or of­fer ad­vice to any­one in­ter­ested.
