The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Calf rearing information evenings aim for better outcomes
A series of calf rearing information events in conjunction with Kerry Agribusiness and Cargill Animal Nutrition, will take place on Tuesday, January 15 at the Charleville Park Hotel, Charleville, Co. Cork and at the Listowel Arms Hotel, Listowel, Co. Kerry on Wednesday, January 16.
Key speakers will include Cargill Calf and Heifer Specialist, Bianca Theeruth alongside Vet and Head of Technical with Munster Cattle Breeding, Dr Doreen Corridan. A Q&A session will follow with dairy and beef farmer Steven McAlister.
Ms. Theeruth will address why calf management is so important when it comes to performance, why keeping calves healthy and on their growth target is particularly important and why we should be looking for them to double their birth weight by 56 days old.
The data to be presented will point to the benefits of ensuring good dry cow management and nutrition, extending this into the pre-weaning period and how these factors will help the calves achieve their target growth rates and avoid disease, paving the way to a productive first lactation.
Both events will commence at 7.30pm with refreshment each night. For further information contact your local Kerry Agribusiness representative.
