TERENCE PART OF ‘DREAM TEAM’
THE INTERNATIONAL HOTEL KILLARNEY SAYS FAREWELL TO MUCH-LOVED MANAGER
FROM maintenance man to general manager Terence Mulcahy, worked his way up to the ladder to become part of the ‘dream team’ that made the International Hotel in Killarney the success it is today.
For 24 years, Terence, who is originally from Brosna, has been at the backbone of the wellknown Killarney hotel, and tributes have been paid to him on his retirement from the hotel.
He is a familiar face at the hotel and a key figure, and he will be missed by all that knew him, both locals and visitors alike.
Friends and family gathered last Thursday to mark the end of an era with Terence; his wife, Ailish; and their son, Darren. Their daughter, Lorna, was unable to attend the celebrations.
The Mulcahy family were joined by the owners of the hotel, the Coyne family, along with senior and long-standing staff who worked beside Terence over the past 24 years.
Terence began his career at the hotel as a maintenance man and went from there to marketing manager and finally general manager.
Though he had no formal hotel experience, he became a key part of the growth and success of the hotel.
Managing Director Tracy Coyne said he played a huge part in the growth of the International Hotel:
“He brought fresh eyes to the business at a time when Sean and Frankie Coyne had decided to make a significant investment to the building, which was in need of some tender, loving care.
“With Frankie on the interior design, Sean on the money and Terence on the plan’s execution, they were a dream team, and together they brought the Grand Old Lady that was the International back to life to make it a focal point of Killarney town centre, where locals and visitors have the fondest of memories,” added Tracy.
She said that they had a “wonderful” celebration at the hotel last week and it is with sadness that everyone said goodbye to Terence. “He will be sorely missed,” said Tracy. Terence now plans to spend his time on the golf course following years of dedication to the tourism industry in Killarney.
