-

THE annual presentation of cheques to local charities was held An Ríocht AC recently, and the proceeds of the GOAL Mile Christmas morning charity event were distributed.

“Christmas is known as the time of giving, and that was certainly the case in Castleisland recently as the proceeds of the annual GOAL Mile were presented to the chosen charities,” said An Ríocht AC Manager Hazel Byrne.

GOAL’s overseas developments received €1,585, and presentations of €600 each were made to Oileán Beó/St John of Gods, Castleisland; and €600 to Pieta House.

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone who organised this event and to the many members of the community who took part and who made very kind donations to our very worthy charities,” said Ms Byrne.

Meanwhile, An Ríocht AC returned with its popular Couch to 5k programme last night, January 15, at 7pm.

The programme will continue on every Tuesday and Thursday nights

This series will culminate in a 5k road race / fun run on April 14.

Designed to suit for beginners and those of all abilities, the programme will start with a combination of walking and short running intervals.

“It will gradually progress over the weeks with running interval times increasing slightly over the weeks,” said An Ríocht AC Manager Hazel Byrne.

“Walkers and families are welcome

“This is a very social programme and costs only €2 per session,” said Ms Byrne in conclusion.
