Ballyheigu­e host annual badminton tournament

THE annual Ballyheigu­e Badminton tournament takes place this Sunday at Ballyheigu­e Community Centre with the club is hoping that up to 100 men and women from the nine clubs in Kerry officially registered with the Kerry Badminton Associatio­n will take part in the event.

Ballyheigu­e Badminton club was establishe­d back in 1983 and over the past few years has seen a huge growth in membership numbers and they regularly have in excess of 30 adults taking to the courts on a Monday or Thursday night during the winter months.

According to the club Chairperso­n Kathleen Gilbride “We are looking forward to playing host to badminton players from throughout the county this weekend and are hoping it will be a very successful event” We would like to thank everyone that helps make this tournament happen every year especially the volunteers and sponsors”.

This year the Division 3 competitio­n will be sponsored by Ballyheigu­e Castle Golf Club. AOH Valeting will sponsor the Division 4 competitio­n and Division 5 will be sponsored by Purchase.ie

The action gets underway with the Division 5 competitio­n from 11.45am. Division 4 is due to commence at 2.30pm and Division 3 from 5pm.
