Scór activity cranks up after break for the festive period

- Jack Hennessy

AFTER a short lay-off from Coiste Scór over the festive season it is back to competition time once again continuing at Scór Na nÓg in what will be a busy weekend ahead with the County Finals of Quiz on this Friday, January 18 followed on Sunday, January 20 by the Munster Finals for the remaining seven categories.

Quiz

IT is important to note that due to a change in this category for the past number of years the outright winners in each county will go directly through to the All Ireland Scor Na nÓg Finals, which this year will take place in the “Travellers Friend” Royal Theatre, Castlebar on Saturday February 23 11am, prior to the main event.

This applies to both Scór Na nÓg and Scór Sinsear. So on this Friday, January 18, 7pm, at the Centre Of Excellence, Currans; clubs from around the various District Boards will battle it out for the right to represent their County at the National Finals in Junior Scór.

Those great rival Killarney clubs Dr Crokes and Legion led the way in a ding dong struggle in last year’s County Finals with the latter edging out their neighbours by a single point and going through to the finals.

Once again it is expected that it will go down to the wire before a winner is declared.

Munster Finals

Kerry will be represented in all seven categories at this years Munster Scór Na nÓg Finals which will be going ahead in the Community Centre, Waterford on this Sunday, January 20 at 2pm where all Scór enthusiasts will be travelling in huge numbers to the County Waterford venue to cheer on their respective Clubs to further glory and hopefully a place in the All Ireland Finals at the end of the days proceedings; which this year will take place in the “Travellers Friend” Royal Theatre ,Castlebar on Saturday, February 23.

Once again the East Kerry Board will lead the way with Spa involved in both Figure and Set Dancing while Glenflesk take part in the Ballad Group disciplines. Martin Larkin will be all out to bring glory to Sneem in Solo Singing as will Gearoid Evans at Recitation for his Club Keel.
