Castleisland win Community Games basketball gold
OUR first event of the year took place last Saturday in Moyvane - the Girls U-15 Badminton. Excellent skills on display coupled with agility and accuracy were the order of the day. On Sunday, Basketball Boys U-13 took place in Duagh and Castleisland.
BASKETBALL U-13 BOYS
The first Basketball competition took place today with 12 teams entered, six teams playing Duagh and six in Castleisland. In Duagh, Listowel advanced to semi-finals after wins over Duagh and Firies, and Ballymacelligott defeated Milltown/Listry and Spa Muckross. The home side advanced in Castleisland defeating Currow/Currans and Killarney. In Group 2, Rathmore/ Gneeveguilla overcame Spa Fenit/Barrow and Glenflesk.
The semi-final pairings were Listowel v Rathmore/Gneeveguilla, which was an exciting game and finished 20-17 in the latter’s favour.
The second semi pitted neighbours Ballymacelligott and Castleisland together, which Castleisland won 13-4.
The play-off was a great game between Listowel and Ballymacelligott with sides level 11-11 at half time, Ballymacelligott pulled away in the last minute to win 22-18.
In the final, both Rathmore/ Gneeveguilla and Castleisland played fantastic and did their areas proud with the score 12-13 in favour of Castleisland at half time, the second side both sides upped their defence and all ten players on both sides got to play, Castleisland proved too strong in the closing minutes and won the first basketball title of the year on a score line 24-17.
Well done to all the players, table officials, referees, organisers and all the fantastic supporters today.

BADMINTON U-15 BOYS & GIRLS
Community Games activities for 2019 started on Saturday with the U-15 Badminton competition. Great competition in Moyvane with Listowel retaining both their boys and girls U-15 Badminton titles and the first teams to qualify for the Munster finals to be held on Easter Sunday in Tralee.
Results Boys: 1. Listowel; 2nd Annascaul/Camp/Inch, Lispole; 3rd Moyvane/Knockanure; 4th Valentia Island; Girls: 1st Listowel; 2nd Annascaul/Camp/Listowel; 3rd Moyvane/Knockanure.
