The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Much to do at the O’Connell Adult Education Centre
THE O’Connell Adult Education Centre in Caherciveen provide a range of education and training opportunities for adults and young people in Mid and South Kerry, as well as ‘room rental’ to local groups and organisations. The good news is that new courses are now enrolling for the coming term.
“We’ll be running a ‘Train the Trainer’ Level 6 qualification from the end of January for people who are seeking a professional training certificate in their own field,” said Sinéad Geary, Centre Manager.
“This course will be delivered over 10-weeks in the evenings and on Saturdays to suit people who are not free during the day to attend courses.”
The centre will also offer a Tour Guiding Level 6 qualification in the autumn term. This will be run in partnership with Kerry ETB Training Centre in Tralee and runs over 16-weeks. It will give participants the qualifications, confidence and skills they will need to work as a professional tour guide.
Applications are already being accepted for the next VTOS and Youthreach courses to start September 2019. Future plans include looking to develop Hairdressing and Barbering at the centre and if this is of interest to you, be sure to contact Sinéad for details. There is also ongoing demand for the Horticulture, Healthcare, Special Needs and Computing qualifications, which are offered at the centre. In the spring there will be a variety of short hobby type courses to look forward to. (See advert). For example, tuition for small groups and one to one are provided through the Adult Literacy department for adults who want to improve their basic skills.
