TWO upcoming on-farm informatio­n days on Calf Health And Rearing will give farmers expert insights into disease control and nutrition to achieve strong, healthy calves.

Kellihers Feeds & Agri Supplies Ltd, Ballymulle­n, Tralee, in associatio­n with Bonanza Calf Nutrition is hosting the two informatio­n days on the farms of, and by kind permission of:

Frank and Joe Keane Ballinagar, Lixnaw, Co Kerry on Wednesday, January 23, commencing 11am,

and Pat Moynihan, Knockdurat­h, Headford, Killarney, Co Kerry on Thursday, January 24, again starting at 11am.

Topics to be discussed on the two days will include disease control and minimising disease, plus managing hygiene and health. There will be a particular focus on crypto and coccidosis, and making calf rearing as easy as possible.

Rotavirus, Crypto and Coccidiosi­s can be disastrous on a farm, and the informatio­n days will demonstrat­e how to prevent and control these diseases

On the days, experts will be giving top tips for mastering milk feeding to achieve strong healthy calves with simple rearing systems. They will also showcase nutrition and management to keep the calves healthy and thriving.

Calf expert Dr Christine Cummins of Bonanza Calf Nutrition and her colleague Tom Warren will speak on:

• Essential tips to prepare you for calf rearing success this spring.

• Getting back to basics with colostrum management

• Key components of the calf ’s first week of life

• Find out the best milk feeding regime for you and your farm set up.

• How to maximise rumen developmen­t in your rearing system.

Also at the informatio­n days, Kelliher’s Agri Dairy Specialist Adam Heffernan will hold a demonstrat­ion on farm hygiene processes and best practices to follow.

With free expert advice on offer the informatio­n days are ‘not to be missed’ by farmers rearing healthy calves profitably this spring.
