The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Countdown to Community Awards
SUBMISSIONS are now being taken for the 2019 Kerry Community Awards. This annual event is held at The Dromhall Hotel in Killarney and recognises the contribution of local and voluntary groups to the social fabric of their communities. Last year’s event was revamped to make the categories more inclusive, and the deadline for applications this year is 5pm on Friday, February 22.
The Kerry Community Awards are a great way of recognising the social, economic, cultural and environmental aspects of rural and urban life.
The awards are also a great way of bringing the best projects and community initiatives together under one roof. The total prize money paid to date is over €387,000, and it’s an evening well worth being a part of.
“Last year we revamped the awards to make them more inclusive. A lot more organisations can now enter under the new selection process,” said Siobhan Murphy, Sales and Marketing Manager at The Kerryman, which is a founding partner of the awards.
“The awards night always produces a great atmosphere, and we’re looking forward to it again. The voluntary input across every sector of Kerry life is incredible. We also welcome more sponsorship. So if anyone out there would like to sponsor these awards and help to maintain them, they can.”
Siobhan added that any group who may have difficulty filling out their application form can get in touch with the Kerry Community Awards Committee for assistance. The top 10 entries receive a gold award and will each collect a cheque for €1,000. The 10 silver winners will receive a €500 cheque with their award. Meanwhile, the overall winner will receive an additional prize of €2,000.
