A ‘Torcathon’to says thanks for all the support

- By SINEAD KELLEHER

THE Kerry Hospice Foundation are set to benefit from a unique fundraiser at Torc mountain to say thanks to the wonderful organisation for their support and care to Ros Wallace who passed away from cancer last year.

Ros was originally from Cork but living Fossa and her brother, Ger Bythell, has come up with the idea off a ‘Torcathon’ which is a marathon around Torc mountain and the cardiac steps.

On Saturday March 2 Ger Bythell will run the ‘Torcathon’, a trail marathon he dreamt up while running around the ‘Cardiac Steps’ last year.

Ger is doing this to mark what would have been his sister Ros Wallace’s 50th birthday, and to raise sponsorship funding for the Kerry Hospice Foundation and the Palliative Care Team at Tralee University Hospital. This wonderful team took such incredible care of Ros that Ger wanted to express their sincere appreciation in a practical way.

The Kerry Hospice Foundation needs to raise €10,000 per week to cover its commitments and support its great services and Ger hopes to play a part in helping them raise these vital funds The course will be challenging, four laps, two short and two long, each one incorporating and ascent of the locally-named ‘Cardiac Steps’ and the long laps will incorporate Torc Mountain.

He hopes to complete the ‘Torcathon’ in about five hours on the day. If you would like to sponsor Ger please search ‘Torcathon’ on www.everydayhero.com.
