Kelly fights for better conditions for women
MEP for Ireland South and leader of Fine Gael in the European Parliament Seán Kelly took up a campaign on behalf of women last week as he led calls to encourage women to pursue careers in science – and highlighted the under-representation of women on boards of directors.
Marking International Day of Women and Girls in Science at the EU last week, Kelly said: “Diversity across all sectors promotes innovation and productivity. We have to prioritise support for young women to pursue careers in science, and ensure effective communication of the opportunities that are there for them.” He also spoke of the benefits of more female directors, in the context of a draft EU directive to redress gender inequality in business.
