Huge turnout for quiz supporting St Francis School

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

NOW into its third year, the popularity of the annual St Francis Special School table quiz shows no sign of slowing down.

A vital fundraiser for services in the school, this years event filled over 88 tables while also having the added attraction of the one and only Marty Morrisey as MC on the night.

There were over 400 people in attendance on a fantastic night of community spirit and support.

The Kenmare Bay hotel was the setting and organiser Jean O’Sullivan said that the night was a great one.

“Marty was brilliant. The crowd really enjoyed him. With 88 tables and sheets to collect, Marty was great keeping everyone entertained throughout. He was good fun, he wasn’t at all like the serious Marty that you’d see on the television,” said Jean.

Jean said the generosity of the people of Kerry towards the school and their understanding of the services that they provide for the school always amazes her.

“The community that I live in myself, they are very supportive. There are seven kids from Kenmare going down to Beaufort.”

The locals are so good. They understand that these kids need that bot of extra help and early intervention. They understand that if these kids don’t get these services now, how in the name of god will they come along in later life. Now is the time when these kid need that early intervention,” she continued.

“We are so thankful to all the people who have supported the quiz from the first year. It has been growing and growing.”

Jean said that without the support of Murphy’s SuperValu in Kenmare, the Kenmare Plant Hire and even RTÉ - who kindly donated two tickets to the Late, Late Show as prizes.

Jean also took the time to thank all of the local businesses that came in behind them, this quiz would not have been possible.

Jean added that they are already looking forward to returning again next year.
