The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

Busy year ahead for Kerry Junior golfers

-

A few weeks back I mentioned that Pat O’Dwyer has retired as Junior Golf Convenor and that John Sheppard from Kenmare Golf Club has taken over.

The fixtures for Junior Golf have been released and there is certainly a lot of golf to be played in the coming months for our young players.

It all begins at Tralee on Tuesday April 16th with the first round of the Kerry Junior League where the tee is reserved from 9.00am to 11.00am.

Round Two take place on Wednesday April 24th at Ballybunion (10.30-12.30) and two days later on Friday April 26th Round three takes place at Waterville (8.30-10.30).

As normal, the next round will not be played until the summer holidays begin and round four takes place at Castleisland on Monday July 1 (10.00-12.00).

Round Five takes place on the following Monday July 8 at Ceann Sibeal (10.30-12.30) with Round Six at Dooks on Monday July 15 (11.30-1.00).

Round Seven and Round Eight are at Ring of Kerry and Killorglin respectively on July 22nd and 29th with the tee reserved for both between 1.30-12.30.

Round Nine is a real treat for the Juniors as it will be played at the newly-opened Hogs Head but a date has yet to be confirmed while Round Ten takes place at Kenmare on Monday August 12 (10.30-1.00).

The final Round will be played at Killarney’s Killeen course on Monday August 20th and will be run in conjunction with the John B. O’Shea Under-14 Shield competition.

There are of course various other junior completions throughout the season also including the John Molyneux and Joe Quinlan Shields, the Irish Junior Foursomes, the Fred Daly and the Irish Inter-club Boys competition.

So from April to September, golf looks like being an almost fulltime occupation for our younger players.
