Dowling friend Alan Newman passes away

ON Tuesday afternoon of last week in Powerstown Park, Liam Dowling dedicated his brilliant Coursing Oaks victory to his great friend, Alan Newman, of Corran, Rathmore, and, very sadly, Alan Newman was to die that night in the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork.

“We got to know each other many years ago and we went coursing together high up and low down,” said Dowling in a Sporting Press interview before the national meeting. “Alan has done a pile of travelling for us and you couldn’t find a better man or a more thorough gentleman to send anywhere.”

Alan Newman was buried in Shrone Cemetery on Saturday.
