Killarney come up just short

MUNSTER CLUB UNDER 16 CUP GROUP 2 Nenagh 19 Killarney 15

KILLARNEY displayed some great courage but ultimately came up short against a very good Nenagh outfit last Sunday.

Killarney started without three of their regular backline and Nenagh found holes in their defence as the new players tries to get familiar with each other. By the eighth minute Nenagh had two tries scored, and with the conversions added they took a 14-0 lead.

Killarney, inspired by Pádraig Talbot, John McCarthy, Peter Walsh and Donnchadh Grealy soon got to grips with their opponents and Brendy O’Donoghue crashed over for a good try. Killarney now had the belief to drive on and a good break from Grealy set up Thomas Clifford for a second try to leave the half time score at 14-10.

Killarney started the second half as they finished the first and with Mikey Moriarty performing well at full back, Brendy O’Donoghue was unfortunate not to score his second try.

Nenagh struck a killer blow midway through the second half when they went over for their third try. Killarney attacked once more, with Jack Kenneally, Pádraig Talbot and Tomás Clifford to the fore.

Their efforts were rewarded when Peter Walsh found Dan Twomey who scored in the corner. Killarney searched for a winning score but found fortune and time were against them as Nenagh held out for the win.
