Need some Plant Hire equipment

-

THE most important thing about plant-hire is that you have a knowledge of the job you’re doing and that you know exactly the right tools and machinery needed for the job. This advice isn’t needed for the experienced builder, landscaper or tradesman who is already well familiar with the tools of their trade.

However, the vast majority of us only think about planthire equipment the moment we realise there’s work to be done. No matter how much you think you know about plant-hire equipment, your first job is to talk to those directly involved. Tell them about the job you’re doing and get advice on the best and safest machinery available. If you think the job is above your station, hire a contractor.

Of course plant-hire specialists provide everything from a strimmer for cutting rough grass, to a mini-digger for digging foundations. But remember that knowing what needs to be done and the tools required to do it is always a prerequisite. Most builders will already have a planthire agent they deal directly with. But if you’re new to the trade be sure to do research by assessing the quality of machinery and the cost of pricing. Remember there’s no shortcut to a job well done, so be not to take chances with cheap or faulty equipment as this will only end up costing you more in the long term. It’s also advised that you consider the age of the machinery in order to minimise the risk of mechanical failure: the younger the machine the less likely it is to suffer from excessive wear and tear.

Service support is another important factor as you don’t want to lose time and money on a job due to mechanical failure. Check to see if a callout repair service is included in the hire. If not, be sure to source someone locally who repairs hydraulic machines onsite, or outside of working time hours. This way you don’t lose precious time having to return a machine for repairs.

Lastly, be sure to agree a time for the machinery to be delivered onsite. While some contractors have the means to pick up machinery themselves, not all do which is why you want the plant-hire company that you choose to be efficient in terms of delivery.

If the machine needs to be there for 8am, then it needs to be delivered the evening before or in plenty of time prior to the start of the job. Also, check that everything is working before the plant-hire operator leaves site. This way he will be onsite and available to deal with any problems.
