Millions tune in to David’s online dancing

-

WORLD Champion dancer David Geaney has not left home since the coronavirus lockdown and yet he has established a worldwide audience of over 5 million with his stunning toe-tapping skills.

David has danced all the way from his family pub on Main Street, Dingle, to Broadway in New York as well as making television appearances on ‘Britain’s got Talent’ and elsewhere. With the world closed down under the coronavirus pandemic he has now moved online and continues to grow a global audience, while confined to home.

David, who has been described as “the present day Fred Astaire” by world famous accordion player Sharon Shannon, invited the cream of Irish dancers and trad musicians in Ireland and abroad to send him video footage of their performances which he has painstakingly edited into the short film sequences that have become an online sensation, amassing an audience of over 5,000,000 viewers in just three months.

The most recent video features David dancing on screen alongside the Wang sisters from Donegal. It took him over 13 hours to produce the final cut, which focuses on the sublime footwork of the dancers.

The work has received rave reviews from, among others, acclaimed Michigan dance teacher Michael O’Hare who said: “These “collabs” are exactly what the world of Irish dance needs right now and I am forever grateful!”

The videos also feature some of the best players of Irish trad music in Europe, including multiple winners of the BBC Musician of the Year competition.

David’s future plans are not limited to online dancing – his parents are currently in the process of applying for planning permission to construct a dance studio in the Dingle Pub’s former ‘barrel store’ on Goat Street, where David hopes to pass on his skills to young dancers.
