Summer attractions and variety in Cahersiveen...

-

IN the height of summer time, Cahersiveen can feel like the centre of the universe: majestic mountains, breathtaking seafronts and local charm is what makes Cahersiveen feel distinctive. Among some of the popular attractions this summer season is the Old Barracks and Paddle & Sea. Both attractions represent the old and new in terms of what the town has to offer. Paddle & Sea is a water sports activity offering guided paddling tours along the stunning Cahersiveen coastline. They offer the popular ‘dark sky’ and ‘sunset’ paddles. Run by instructors Emily Rice and Stephen Strain, Paddle & Sea is enjoying a busy season so far. It is ideally suited to the current social distancing protocols, as it provides tours tailored for private groups and family units. Groups are not mixed, which makes it a nicer experience. For bookings, contact Stephen on: 083 389 3972. The Old Barracks in Cahersiveen is one of the town’s oldest attractions. Built between 1870 and 1875, it is a heritage destination unlike any other, and while its stunning architecture mightn’t have been all that popular to people in its heyday, thankfully it has stood the march of time and is now very much a popular tourist and local amenity. Tony White is the new Museum Manager at the barracks, which is now open to visitors. Tony’s future plan is to make the barracks inclusive and a part of community based activities such as craft and food markets, etc. Tony wishes to make the barracks more of an ‘all year round’ facility with community groups getting involved. Continuing to upgrade the museum’s exhibits and add annual exhibitions are further goals. Contact Tony on: 066 401 0430.
