An Ghaeltacht 1-12 Beaufort 0-10

RUAIDHRI O Beaglaoich’s goal halfway through the first half was the turning point in this encouraging victory for a youthful An Ghaeltacht outfit at Strand Road.

The only green flag of a hardfought encounter came from a Beaufort attack where the winners’ full-back, Cian O Murchu, made a spectacular goalline clearance, launching a move that ended with Kerry Under-20 star O Beaglaoich finding the net.

That enabled the Gallarus men to lead by 1-6 to 0-6 at the interval, despite impressive showings from Beaufort attackers, Jack O’Connor and Ciaran Kennedy, with the Breens, Mike and Nathan, also well to the fore.

In the second half, An Ghaeltacht always managed to keep control of the contest, with Eanna O Conchuir, in particular, in outstanding form, while the half-back line of Colm O Muircheartaigh, Padraig Og O Se and PJ MacLaimh were in a dominant mood throughout.

Beaufort gave it their all in an attempt to turn things around, but with Seamus

O Loingsigh also starring for An Ghaeltacht, they did enough to gain a potentially crucial two points.

John Mitchels 0-15 St Marys 1-10

AN excellent contest at JP O’Sullivan Park in Killorglin ebbed and flowed throughout the 60 minutes but, despite being reduced to 14 men in the closing stages, John Mitchels eked out a fine victory over a gallant St Mary’s outfit on Sunday.

There was never much between these two evenly-matched sides, with Mitchels a point up at the first half water break (0-5 to 0-4), and with Alan O’Donoghue on fire in attack (kicking four points in a row), the Tralee men moved two points clear before being rocked by Sean Cournane’s goal for St Mary’s before half-time. However, two late points from Mikey Kelliher and the very accurate Niall Sheehy kept Mitchels’ noses in front at the interval (0-9 to 1-5).

For St Mary’s, Bryan Sheehan kicked some great scores as he enjoyed a fantastic battle with the impressive Jack Myers for Mitchels, while Jack Daly was always dangerous at full-forward for the South Kerry men. The second half continued to be a nip and tuck affair, as Mitchels lost Wayne Conway to a second yellow card near the end, but another great Sheehy score saw them home.
