The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Renard and Duagh can take quarter-final berths
GROUP 1 Renard v Moyvane Saturday, 7pm
RENARD on home ground will be strong favourites. Robert Wharton was a colossus against Asdee, helped by Eoin McCrohan and Jim Sugrue. Moyvane gave Duagh a tremendous battle. If sharpshooter Martin Stack can repeat his display, then Renard could be in trouble.
Verdict: Renard Duagh v Asdee Sunday, 2.30pm
ASDEE will be forewarned about Duagh marksman Martin Scannell, Michael Kirby, and Donnagh Maher. Anthony Maher won’t need any introduction either! However, Asdee have dangerous forwards themselves like Eoin Kennedy and Eoin Tydings.
Verdict: Duagh
GROUP 2 Cordal v Scartaglin Saturday, 7pm
CORDAL coughed up a big lead last weekend to draw with Beale. Philip O’Connor is a defender’s nightmare. Add in Seán Óg Ó Ciardubháin,Kieran Enright, and TJ O’Connor and you have a potent mix. That said, Scartaglen have the Horan twins Eddie and Sean. The two teams are neighbours and most of them have played together at underage.
Verdict: Cordal
Valentia v Beale Sunday, 1pm
THE long journey to Valentia will be shortened a bit by Beale’s great finish last week. Darragh Buckley was absolutely outstanding while Tom Joy and Johnny O’Sullivan impressed. However, Valentia with the likes of John Curran, Andy Quigley and John Shanahan are always dangerous.
Verdict: Beale
GROUP 3 Kilgarvan v Knocknagoshel Sunday, 2.30pm
KILGARVAN have home venue, a win under their belts, and the likes of Liam Twomey, John Mark Foley, Jack Foley, Gearóid Fennessy, and Daniel Casey. Verdict: Kilgarvan
Annascaul v Sneem/Derrynane Sunday, 2.30pm
SNEEM/DERRYNANE have great heart and courage as well as players like Ian Galvin and Jack Riney. But Annascaul are group favourites by a proverbial mile with the likes of Colm Moriarty, Killian Falvey, and James Crean on board. On Annascaul’s home ground there should only be one result here.
Verdict: Annascaul
GROUP 4 Cromane v Tarbert Saturday, 7pm
CROMANE need to beat Tarbert, and even on home ground that will be a very tough task. The likes of Liam Teahan, Donnchadh Walsh, Darren Houlihan, Sean O’Sullivan, and young Darragh McKeefrey will have to be at their best. Tarbert clocked up 25 points last weekend. Cillian Langan was tormentor-in-chief, but Andrew Doherty, Finbar Carrig, and Danny Wren also played big roles.
Verdict: Cromane
Lios Póil v Castlegregory Sunday, 2.30pm
LIOS Póil also need a win and will find it tough. They have potential match-winners in Cathal O’Sullivan and Tom Kavanagh, but they were drawn in a very tough group. Castlegregory’s Alan Fitzgerald is still one of the best forwards out there and he will have Jimmy and Cian O’Grady, Anto Kelliher, and Brendan Hoare in support in support.
Verdict: Castlegregory
