BEAUFORT GAA

Beaufort senior men took on An Ghaeltacht in the first round of the Intermediate Championship in Strand Road Tralee on Sunday. Beaufort opened the scoring with two frees from Jack O’Connor but this lead was short lived as An Ghaeltacht went ahead 0-4 to 0-2 after scoring a free and three points from play on the run. A point from Ciarán Kennedy narrowed the gap to a point going into the water break after 18 minutes. A goal for An Ghaeltacht shortly after the water break widened the gap and despite frees from Jack O’Connor and Fergal Hallissey and a point from Mike Breen,

An Ghaeltacht led by a goal at half time on a scoreline of 1-6 to 0-6. Beaufort created a lot of scoring opportunities in the second half but despite a good save by Sean Coffey and points from Padraig Doona, Ciaran Kennedy and Jack O’Connor, An Ghaeltacht held their lead and won out on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-10. The new additions to the Beaufort Seniors, Sean O’Brien and Jack O’Connor put in a great performance, with brilliant fielding by Sean and great free taking by Jack. Beaufort will now face John Mitchels at home on Sunday 2nd August.
