FIXTURE: Club Championship Rd 2 Austin Stacks v Kilcummin in Connolly Park this Saturday August 1st at 7p.m.
KERRY PETROLEUM CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RD. 1: Killarney Legion 0-15 Kilcummin 1-10. Our lads came up short in an enthralling game on Saturday evening when Legion kicked two points in added on time to clinch a narrow victory. We fielded without Kevin McCarthy and Enda O Sullivan from the named team and lost Kieran Murphy before half time but we could be considered unlucky not to at least have earned a draw and a probable victory.
A minute silence was observed before the game for two deceased members of the Legion club and we sympathise with them in their tragic losses. Team Brendan Kealy, Donal Maher, Kevin McSweeney, Oscar O Connor, Sean O Leary, Dan Moynihan, James Nagle, Kevin Gorman, Kieran Murphy, Paul O Riordan, Eoin O Donovan, Gary O Leary, Noel Duggan, Shane McSweeney, Paul O Shea, Subs used Danny Cronin, Matt Keane, Philip O Leary, Damien O Leary and Mikey O Shea.

FARMSAFETYWEEK
Farm Safety Week 2020 took place from the 20th to 24th July.
This year marks the eight annual Farm Safety Week in UK & Ireland, an initiative led by the IFA in Ireland, aiming to reduce the number of accidents on farms and bring about a change in culture that makes unsafe practices socially unacceptable. The message from this years campaign is Save Lives: Let’s Take Farm Safety Seriously. Farming continues to have one of the poorest safety records of any sector in Ireland, last year 19 people lost their lives in farm accidents, with 14 confirmed deaths so far in 2020. The purpose of the farm safety week campaign is to continue to raise awareness of farming having one of the poorest safety records of any occupation in the UK and Ireland, Highlight that the industry is aware of this and is working to address the issue, Share good practice and demonstrate what good looks like, Continue to support the physical and mental well being of the industry by increasing understanding of how to support those dealing with mental health issues in the industry. Safe practices include:- Performing a risk assessment before undertaking any tasks. The IFA president, Tim Cullinan, comments “Understanding the risks on and around a farm operation makes it easier to avoid dangers and makes accidents less likely. However, all too often, farmers do not recognise the risks on their farms, which makes it difficult to manage the problem.” Take the time to stop and ask the question, is this safe? Do I need better facilities/equipment? Do I need help? - Ensuring optimum health of machinery and equipment by engaging in regular services - Engaging with correct, well-fitting PPE including but not limited to; Ear protection, eye protection, gloves, helmets and face protection, hi vis clothing and safety footwear. Machine lighting/ beacons and safety signage are also vital components of workplace safety - Always carrying a mobile phone. Inform someone on where you are going and when you expect return - Always expecting the unexpected. Be vigilant and constantly aware of your surroundings. There are a number of possible Hazards on the Farm: - Machinery: From 2010-2019, approximately 50% of agriculture and forestry related deaths involved machinery or tractors/vehicles. It is important to note extra care should be taken when operating machinery. Regular checks and maintenance of all farm vehicles should be carried out and always practice the SAFESTOP procedure for a safer working environment Working
at Heights: When working at heights, it is essential that all equipment is suitable, stable and strong enough for the job. Make sure you don’t overload or overreach when working at a height as this may lead to falls - Livestock: Between 2009-2018, 57% of deaths involving livestock were caused by cows/heifers. When working with livestock, ensure the working area is safe and secured with relevant safety measures in place including a gate, a maintained crush, fences, etc. It is important to have an escape route for emergency situations when working with animals - Slurry: When working with slurry, ensure there is enough ventilation and all slurry tanks/lagoons are covered. Erecting a child proof safety fence around a slurry tank is a crucial precautionary step. WHO advice: The World Health Organisation (WHO) gives this advice to Home caregivers for people with suspected or confirmed COVID-19. The Carer should: Ensure the ill persons rests, drinks plenty of fluids and eats nutritious food : Wear a medical mask when in the same room with an ill person. Do not touch the mask or face during use and discard it afterward : Frequently clean hands with soap and water or alcohol-based rub after any type of contact with the ill person or their surroundings, before, during and after preparing food, before eating, after using the toilet : Use dedicated dishes, cups, eating utensils, towels and bedlinens for the ill person. Wash dishes, cups, eating utensils, towels, or bed linens used by the ill person with soap and water : Identify frequently touched surfaces by the ill person and clean and disinfect them daily : Call your health care facility immediately if the ill person worsens or experiences difficulty breathing.
KNOCK SHRINE NOVENA
The annual Novena at Knock Shrine which began in 1977 and is normally from 14th to 22nd August has been postponed until perhaps later this year, depending on latest Government guidance. While the Novena is postponed, the Shrine will remain open to welcome individuals and family groups and will continue to offer Daily Masses in Knock Basilica at 12 noon, 3pm and 7.30pm with restricted capacity and on a first-come, first-served basis. Pilgrims may avail of Confession in the Chapel of Reconciliation. The Parish Church is available for private prayer and pilgrims can light candles. In all these locations strict queuing and social distancing measures apply. During lockdown Knock Shrine was at the forefront in reaching out to people online by the streaming of daily masses via our website and Facebook page. Pilgrims were invited to place a petition or light a candle while they were unable to visit their local churches.“We realised the huge importance of our online services during lockdown and what it meant to people to be able to connect with us each day. Our online services will continue to play an important role in enabling us to stay connected with our pilgrims.”“I take this opportunity to encourage the people of Ireland and beyond to pray the Novena prayer in their own homes and parishes for the month of August so that we may be united in prayer. The Novena prayer can be found on our website Knock Shrine.ie. The proposed theme for this year’s Novena was ‘Faith in changing times’. Here at Knock Shrine as we respond to the present challenges of the coronavirus, we continue “to pray with you and for you” as we look forward with faith and hope to brighter days. We thank everyone for their patience and cooperation. May Our Lady of Knock keep you all safe.
KILLARNEY DRCROKESGAA
CO. SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Dr. Crokes 1-18 Templenoe 0-11. A new look Dr. Crokes side had a comfortable victory on Friday last in the opening round of the Club Championship with a ten point victory over Templenoe.
We started the livelier and opening points by Tony Brosnan and David Shaw seemed to settled us but it took another 7 minutes for us to register another minor in that time we spurned a number of goal chances and kicked a few poor wides. At the end of the opening quarter we led 0-03 to 0-02. Two further Brosnan points stretched our advantage Miceal Burns followed with another to leave us leading 0-06 to 0-03 after 18 minutes. A goal from Brosnan in the 26th minute followed by points from Shaw, Michael Potts and Brosnan saw us with a lead at half time 1-10 to 0-05.
On the resumption Brosnan (3) Burns and Shaw increased the advantage and with the game safely secured management emptied the bench to give valuable game time to the panel. Further points from Shaw, Brian Looney Burns completed the scoring.
To their credit Templenoe kept plugging away but a well marshalled Dr. Crokes defense led by Captain Gavin White ably assisted by David Naughton and Cillian Fitzgerald snuffed out any threats. Johnny Buckley and Mark O`Shea had the upper hand at midfield and gave a plentiful supply to forward six.
Whilst this was a good victory and management will be delighted with the result they will also have concerns about the number of missed chances.
Team Shane Murphy, John Payne, Michael Moloney, Fionn Fitzgerald, David Naughton Gavin White ( C) Cillian Fitzgerald, Johnny Buckley Mark O`Shea Michael Potts (0-01) Miceal Burns (0-03) Brian Looney (0-01) Tony Brosnan 1-08) Davis Shaw (0-5) Chris Doncel.
