Huge crane brings Tralee to a halt

August 1995

-

TRAFFIC in Tralee was brought to a standstill for long periods on Monday afternoon when a massive crane constructed by the Liebherr group in Killarney passed through the town on its way to Fenit.

Electricity and phone lines in parts of the town had to be turned off temporarily as the crane passed through Rock Street shortly after 5pm. Local Cllr Jim Finucane criticised Liebhere for deciding to move their crane through Tralee during the holiday period.

He said he received numerous complaints from delayed motorists, tourists and traders in the Rock Street area.

“Liebherr should give some advance notice to Tralee Town Council before they allow their cranes to pass through a busy tourist town at 5pm on a Monday afternoon. Surely they could find a more convenient time,” he said.

Inspectotr Barry O’ Rourke of Tralee said that local gardaí were given plenty of advance notice that the crane would be travelling through the town.
