Samurai swords and drugs uncovered in garda raids in Kerry

TWO samurai swords and a flick-knife were seized in Killarney town last week, as part of a crack-down on criminal activity in the town.

Four houses in the Kilarney were searched during the course of the a day-long day of operation by Killarney gardaí last Wednesday,

July 29. During the house searches offensive weapons were discovered as well as drugs and cash.

The items seized including small amounts of illegal drugs including €540 cannabis herb, €100 of heroin, €100 of Xanax, and €60 of MDMA. £340 and €6,325 in cash was also found during the searches.

The planned searches began at 8am and were led by the Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit, with the assistance of the Southern Region Dog Unit and Killarney gardaí.

The local Scenes of Crime Unit also attended where they photograph­ed the scenes and all of the seized items. All of the suspected drugs will now be sent for analysis.

No arrests have been made but gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, gardaí seized €4,800 of suspected cannabis plants in Dingle, on July 28.

At around 6pm gardaí from the Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit, assisted by Dingle gardaí, executed a search warrant at a house in the Lispole area.

Gardaí were forced to breach the back door of the house as the occupant refused to let them enter the property.

During the course of the search, gardaí seized €4,800 of cannabis plants that were located in a poly-tunnel in the back garden. Gardaí also seized a small amount of cannabis herb and a grinder from inside the house.

A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and brought to Tralee Garda Station.

He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and later released. A file will be prepared for the DPP.
