Light-hearted wedding signs with an important message...

-

EVERYTHING about life these days seems to point us in the direction of signs that tell us what to do and where to go. COVID-19 is with us for the foreseeable future but we can – wisely that is – still carry on with life to some degree.

A wedding is not the kind of place one associates with strict signage giving the kind of direction you’d expect to find in a hospital. Having said that, the signs are necessary to remind us of social distancing and to wash our hands regularly.

But wedding receptions are ideal for poetic licence. Health and safety law may require signs, but it doesn’t stop you from devising your own ‘easier on the eye’ versions. Getting a strong message across in a subtle and humorous way is not beyond the bounds of possibility.

Chalk boards, decorative easels, quirky picture frames, soft calligraphy and lettering blocks can all be used to get the important message about social distancing across, minus the austere and grim COVID signage that we’ve all grown accustomed to seeing in shops, etc. You’re not lessening what is an important message, only toning it down slightly to suit the cordial ambiance of a wedding day.

You can make quirky, personalised social distancing signs for guests’ tables. How about something like: ‘Maura, don’t forget to keep your distance’? Or ‘Michael, that’s too close’? These signs get the message across in a more affable way. With some creativity, humour and originality you can get a strong message across in a soft manner.
