The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Plenty still to play for in Intermediate championship
JOHN MITCHELS V AN GHAELTACHT
SUNDAY, 2.30pm in Mitchels Complex, Tralee
THIS is one of the games of the weekend. Mitchels will be disappointed with their three-point loss, but will relish the opportunity to set the record straight against a rampant An Ghaeltacht, who are flying at the moment. Home advantage may be crucial. VERDICT: John Mitchels
ST MARY’S V BEAUFORT
SUNDAY, 2.30pm in Cahersiveen
IT will be extremely difficult for the Cahersiveen men to pick themselves up from last weekend’s hammering by An Ghaeltacht. Meanwhile, Beaufort rejuvenated their campaign by edging Mitchels in an excellent encounter. Beaufort have the greater need for the two points here. VERDICT: Beaufort
SPA V NA GAEIL
SATURDAY, 7pm in Spa
TWO of the in-form teams in the competition do battle but, with no extra benefit to finishing first or second in the groups, the contest will be somewhat diluted. Jack Barry and Diarmuid O’Connor are in fine form right now, but Spa might just have enough on home soil. VERDICT: Spa
CURROW V GLENFLESK
SUNDAY, 2.30pm in Currow
YOU have to feel for Currow after only registering two points in a whole hour of football against Na Gaeil, as they took a serious beating. How can they pick themselves up now? Glenflesk will also be bitterly disappointed to have zero points from two games, but they should win this. VERDICT:
Glenflesk
ARDFERT V RATHMORE
SATURDAY, 7pm in Ardfert
BOTH teams are approaching this clash in various states of shock and dejection after blowing big leads in their matches last week. Rathmore, in particular, are hovering in the last chance saloon, while Ardfert might have one eye now on the senior hurling championship. VERDICT: Rathmore
DESMONDS V LAUNE RANGERS
SATURDAY, 7pm in Castleisland
THE Castleisland squad must be absolutely buzzing after their brilliant victory in Rathmore, while Saturday’s visitors pipped Ardfert by a single point. With Desmonds already sure of their place in the quarter-finals, the pressure is all on the Killorglin men. VERDICT: Laune Rangers
MILLTOWN/CASTLEMAINE V GLENBEIGH/ GLENCAR
SUNDAY, 2.30pm, in Killorglin
THIS Mid Kerry derby is easily one of the most eagerly-awaited contests this weekend. The home team simply have to respond to last week’s defeat to Dromid
Pearses, or they will be making their exit. That extra hunger might be decisive. VERDICT: Milltown/ Castlemaine
WATERVILLE V DROMID PEARSES
SUNDAY, 2.30pm in Waterville
THIS is a difficult period for Waterville, and despite the prospect of a South Kerry derby on the horizon here, it’s hard to see the home team picking themselves up quickly. Dromid were impressive last weekend, and should be determined enough to win. VERDICT: Dromid Pearses
