The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

Comfortable wins for St Brendans, West Kerry and Mid Kerry

-

St. Brendans 4-8 St. Kierans 1-7

ST. Brendans’ scintillating Earnán Ferris was the hero of the hour – bagging four goals – ably assisted by the outstanding Oisin Maunsell whose soaring runs out of defence were a feature of the game. Ben Hanafin and Dara O’Connor opened their scoring but Cathal Brosnan, Donal Daly, and Adam Joy helped St. Kierans to a 0-5 to 0-2 lead.

Dara O’Sullivan (2) and a Ferris goal put Brendans in front but Sean Horan replied with St.Kierans’ goal. Ferris goaled again for the last score of a great half to leave St. Brendans 2-4 to 1-6 ahead.

St. Kierans drew level early in the second half through Cathal Brosnan, but that was to be their last score. Earnán Ferris completed his hat-trick with a penalty and Dara O’Sullivan added two points.

Ronan Walsh stretched the lead before Ferris goaled from the penalty spot after Oisin Maunsell was fouled.

St. Brendans were impressive here against very good opposition.

Shannon Rangers 0-6 West Kerry 3-23

SHANNON Rangers, with Darragh Hanrahan, Danny Stack, Brendan Keane and Jack Sheehy impressive, battled bravely throughout but had no answer to West Kerry sharpshooters Maurice O’Connell, Mark Manning, and Tomás Ó Sé, who contributed 1-13 to their team’s total.

West Kerry got off the mark through Jack O’Neill and Thomas O’Donnell, Mark Mannix, Conor O’Leary, and Tomás Ó Sé and a well taken goal from full forward Cian Cronin had them well in front. Shannon Rangers opened their account in the 17th minute through Chris O’Donoghue lofting and he and Danny Stack closed out the first half scoring, West Kerry 1-10 Shannon Rangers 0-3.

The second half was similar to the opening half with West Kerry strolling to a comprehensive victory. Their long range accuracy was especially impressive, while goals from Conor O’Leary and Maurice O’Connell sealed an emphatic victory.

Laune Rangers 2-12 Mid Kerry 2-22

CONOR Spillane (a free) and Keith Evans traded early score with Eoghan Hassett (2f) to make it 0-4 apiece. Hassett (0-3, 2f) and Marc Clifford put Laune Rangers in front by 0-8 to 0-5 at half-time.

Conor Spillane pulled one back. A great Callum Moriarty goal saw the club side lead by 1-9 to 0-6 but that was as good as it got for Laune rangers. Mid Kerry took over, with Kieran Dennehy and Cillian Burke scoring goals and Conor Spillane in particular reeling off a string of points (he finished with 0-13, 10f).

Jack McGillicuddy saved an Eoghan Hassett penalty, but the Laune Rangers’ centre forward scored the rebound. It wasn’t enough to keep them in touch, withMidKerrywinningintheend by a comfortable margin.
