Castleisla­nd get the better of Samphires twice in three days

CASTLEISLA­ND and Fenit Samphires met twice in three days and it was Castleisla­nd that won both games and consequent­ly continue to lead the way at the top of the table.

On Thursday they had to work hard to overcome the seasiders but they won 4-3 in a good competitiv­e game. Aidan O’Callaghan, Tommy Feehan, Cathal O’Donoghue and Shane O’Loughlin scored for the islanders.

On Sunday they locked horns at Georgie O’Callaghan Park and they again came away with the spoils on a 4-2 scoreline. They got off to a dream start with Tommy Feehan scoring in the first minute of the game. However Fenit equalised but Castleisla­nd went ahead again with a Stephen McCarthy goal and it was 2-1 at the interval.

Fenit equalised early in the second half and now the game was delicately balanced. However, Castleisla­nd finished very strongly going ahead in the 75th minute when Cathal O’Donoghue scored a cracker of a goal. Adam O’Donoghue sealed the game with another goal in the 85th minute.

Castleisla­nd lead the way at the top of the table but have played more games than other title contenders.

Killarney Athletic drop points

Killarney Athletic encountere­d a bit of a hiccup in their bid to make it to the final. On Thursday evening they had a hard earned 4-2 win over Classic FC. Jack Cooper (2), Adam O’Connell and Tadgh Doolan scored for the winners. Darcy O’Sullivan and Michael Conway scored for Classic

On Sunday Athletic entertaine­d Tralee Dynamos but could only manage a scoreless draw.

Listowel Celtic 3 Killarney Celtic 4

Despite fielding a second string side due to the Champions League Final Killarney Celtic were still good enough to beat Listowel Celtic at Pat Kennedy Park on Wednesday evening. Cathal O’Shea, Lee Downing, Matt Keane and Jamie O’Sullivan scored for the winners. It is now a three-horse race for a place in the league final between Killarney Celtic Killarney Athletic and Castleisla­nd.

Listowel Celtic 2 Classic FC

On Sunday Classic FC travelled to Pat Kennedy Park and came away with a good win. Mike Conway, Graham O’Leary and Max Mugabe scored for the Tralee side.

Tralee Dynamos 2 MEK Galaxy 0

These two sides met again in the space of a week and it was a similar outcome with Tralee Dynamos taking the 3 points. It was a good competitiv­e game with both sides creating chances but late goals from David Townsend and Theo Diggins secured the 3 points for the Tralee side.

Camp United 2 Killorglin 2

This was a big game in the title race in this division and in a close game both sides had to settle for a point. Jason Hickson scored a brace of goals for Camp United while Lee Carey did likewise for

Killorglin. Both sides have 2 games left to play where a win would put them both in the decider.

QPR 0 Killarney Celtic B 4

Killarney Celtic secured the 3 points with a comfortabl­e win over QPR who remain rooted at the foot of the table. The man of the match for the winners was Terry Sparling who scored all 4 of his sides goals and brought his tally to 7 for the week as he also scored a hat trick with the Celtic Youth team a few days earlier.
