Zingers is latest winner from Moynihan kennel

-

THE years have not blunted in any way the enthusiasm, or the training skills, of Tralee man, John Moynihan, and he proved that in a big way by sending out 5/2 shot, Zingers, to clock a quite superb 28.51 (.10 slow) at Friday’s meeting at the Oakview venue.

Moynihan holds the great distinction of winning the coursing Oaks in 1987 with Safety Leader and he followed up by winning the Champion Stakes the following year with Safety Circle. Three Island Cup victories are another significant coursing achievement by him and, on the track, two Rose of Tralee sweepstake victories top the trophy list.

In relation to Zingers, this fellow was running from trap 3 in the ninth race (A0/ A1 525) on Friday and he produced a blistering turn of early pace which saw him take complete early control. At the line, he had seven and a half lengths to spare from Cashen Maputo.

To sweeten it nicely for John Moynihan, Zingers is owned by a syndicate headed up by his son, Brendan.

Also inside 29.00 seconds in just his second race was Sullys Bullet, which won by six and a half lengths in 28.90 for trainer, Ray Fleming, and owner, Derry O’Sullivan, of Glenflesk.

Berkie Browne, the only bookmaker in attendance, framed very good odds, as he always does, and, for those betting on the tote (mostly online, because of Covid-19 restrictions re the attendance), there was a quite remarkable dividend of €107.80 to a €1 win stake on the winner of the fifth race, Thismanisours, which was 4/1 with Berkie Browne and won by two and a half lengths in 29.55.

Other winners: Academic Molly, 17.97 (.05 slow); Blue Quiver, 29.36; Killahan Bocko, 29.52; Russmur Divine, 29.33; Millridge Milo, 17.83; College Maximus, 29.16; Safe And Sound, 29.27.

SATURDAY MEETING

A run of 28.87 (.10 slow) by Mollys Diva, jointly owned by Michelle Corridan and Gearóid Curtin, of Moyvane, stood out at Saturday’s meeting, but another highlight was the fact that the Johnny Kelly-trained Manhattan Elvis was running his 111th race and won it in 29.99. Other winners: Hunters Missy, 29.78; Skips Madison, 17.92; Definite Plan, 29.13; Abbey Rankin, 29.33; Boys Of Ballymac, 29.41; Farran Best, 29.23; Carrigoon Lodge, 17.99; Lissycasey Dolly, 30.40.
