Killorglin Tidy Towns looking forward to getting back on the road...

-

WHILE everyday life is restricted due to COVID-19 it’s important that we remain optimistic for the future. Many community groups are currently hindered in their work by social distancing but it’s vital to get the message out there that these groups still exist and have plans to kick-start their work again when the time is right.

Few organisations have achieved as mush for their locality as Killorglin Tidy Towns has over the years. This band of local volunteers has achieved everything from maintaining the town’s streetscapes to enhancing the locality’s biodiversity and wildlife through various community projects.

The Killorglin Tidy Town’s group kept up contact during the height of the pandemic via Zoom calls and it operates a very interactive Facebook page that people can message with news of illegal dumping, or simply to enquire about becoming a volunteer.

Orna Eccles is the PRO of Killorglin Tidy Towns and she praised the effort of the local businesses in Killorglin for their trojan effort in keeping shop fronts and premises tidy. Orna and Killorglin Tidy Towns understand how difficult the past few months have been for local businesses, so to invest such time in maintaining their shops has given the town a huge lift.

“We really thank the local businesses for their effort and that they’ve come on board” Orna said.

“Many of them have been out power hosing and painting premises all summer long in spite of the difficult times we’re in. It shows how much pride they have for their business and the town of Killorglin. We would urge everyone to keep supporting their local business,” she added.

The volunteers are ready to get back to work but for the time being people are helping to keep the areas where they live clean. Keeping momentum going with the aim of returning as a group is the aim.

“People can get in touch with us on our Facebook page if they want. This has been a great resource over the past few months. We’re always looking for new volunteers for everything from planting, watering flowers and painting - anything that can be done to improve the town. It’s been a very difficult time but Killorglin Tidy Towns is still here and looking forward to the future,” Orna said.
