SENIOR MEN B - ROUND 3 MID KERRY LEAGUE GROUP 2

Laune Rangers 1-11, Keel 2-10 Laune Rangers Development team hosted Keel on Saturday afternoon in the Mid Kerry Senior League, where a great effort from a young team came up just short against the Mid Kerry Championship finalists a couple of short months ago.

Laune Rangers fielded a team with an average age just short of 20 years old, with five of the most recent crop of Minors starting.

An early Paul Costello free was cancelled out by a well taken Callum Russell effort, and the pair exchanged points again to see scores tied at 0-2 a piece with fifteen minutes played.

That’s how it played out for the rest of the half, with neither team gaining more than a one point lead before being clawed back. Cian O’Shea spilt the posts to give Laune Rangers their first lead but Marc Murphy replied with a pointed mark for the visitors. A Jack Healy point was nullified by Paul Costello for Keel, while Eden Murphy put the visitors ahead with an excellent score.

Cian O’Shea slotted a free to level matters again, and Ciarán O’Sullivan’s shot at goal just cleared the crossbar for a point after Cian O’Shea’s pass had split the defence -- Laune Rangers taking a narrow lead into the break.

Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers B 0-6, Keel 0-5.

A Dylan Prendergast goal in the opening minute of the second half gave Keel a lead they would hold onto until the end. Darragh O’Grady pointed for Rangers but it was soon cancelled out by another well taken Eden Murphy point.

Darragh Clifford and Paul Costello exchanged pointed frees before Keel added a second goal -- Luke Flynn turning over a kickout and scoring with an excellent lobbed effort.

Gary Murphy and Seán Langford added points to give Keel a 2-9 to 0-8 lead with fifteen minutes remaining.

Eoghan Joy and Cian O’Shea (free) reduced arrears for Rangers, but Marc Murphy slotted another free for Keel. Another Cian O’Shea free was followed by a late Eoghan Joy goal to leave two between the sides, but there would be no time for a comeback for the home side Keel holding out to take the win.

Full time: Laune Rangers 1-11, Keel 2-10.

Laune Rangers B:- Conor Buckley, David O’Brien, Cathal O’Callaghan, Eoin O’Connell, Gavan Mangan, Ciarán O’Sullivan (0-1), Aona O’Shea, Callum Russell (0-2), Tom Garry, Darragh O’Grady (0-1), Ronan O’Shea, Jack Healy (0-1), Mikey O’Donnell, Cian O’Shea (capt, 0-4, 3f), Darragh Clifford (0-1f). Subs: Colm O’Shea, Devon Hogan, Adam Carey, Eoghan Joy (1-1), John Tuohy, Cillian Foley.

MINORS

Minor game v Dr Crokes Round 2 County League

Laune Rangers minors suffered a defeat at home to Dr Crokes this afternoon.

Laune Rangers had a great first half, with two well taken goals the first by John Horgan and second by Colm Evans within minutes of each other and at half time the score was 2-3 to 0-4. The second half saw Dr Crokes become more involved in the game and they converted more scores. Charlie O’Sullivan kicked a well taken goal with the ball having been worked up from Laune Rangers half back line with a flurry of passes starting with Liam O’Connell who intercepted a Crokes attack. Adam O’Neill converted two frees also. Laune Rangers played the majority of second half with 14 players.
