Maunsell back to chair Kerry Owners and Breeders Association

-

BRENDAN Maunsell, of Abbeydorney, is back as chairman of the Kerry Greyhound Owners and Breeders Association following his election at a very well-attended AGM of the association at Tralee Track on Wednesday of last week and he is delighted with the team elected with him.

”All of us are totally committed to the task ahead of us and that was made very clear at the agm,” he said. “I am looking forward very much to working in the most positive of ways with my fellow officers.”

Maunsell has Donal G O’Mahony, of Millstreet, as his vice-chairman, and the other officers are secretary Theresa Holohan, of Abbeydorney; treasurer Ronan Kearney, of Moyvane; and public relations officer, Thomas Fitzgerald, from Glin.

THERE were those who thought that, workwise, it would be difficult for owners and trainers to get their runners to the new Tuesday SIS meeting at Tralee Track, bearing in mind that the first race commences at 11.11am and the last at 2.42pm.

A very long timespan there apart from anything else, but those owners and trainers, whatever the work and time obstacles, are committing to the new meeting in a big way, as was well proven at last week’s meeting when 70 of the 72 entries went to traps (accompanied by two reserves).

THE going rated from .40 slow to standard at last week’s Tuesday SIS meeting and the `honour of recording the fastest time belonged to Feora Kim, owned by Beth Reidy, of Ballyheigue. The November ’21 daughter of Good News and Feora Ella clocked an estimated 28.84 (29.14 minus .30) in beating Fire Height Jade by five lengths in an A3 525 and she now goes up to A1 class.

Other winners were Headleys Susie, 29.33; Lassinagh Fudge, 28.94; Gentle Houdini, 29.81; Ballyegan Charly, 29.39; Brosna Cushie, 29.05; Pinewood Sophie, 29.10; Fire Height Moto, 29.19; Toast Of Time, 29.11; Meghans Fury, 29.58; Emilys Tea Leaf, 29.65; Training Board, 29.82.

BALLYMAC Taylor, which raced just once for Liam Dowling back in February of 2023 and lost out on that occasion (ON2 525) to Starson Fly by two and a half lengths in 29.04, missed out on a purse of £20,000 when finishing third behind 5/1 shot, Dazl Rolex, in the final of the Golden Jacket Sweepstake over 714 metres at Crayford last Saturday afternoon. The consolation prize for the 9/4 second favourite, now attached to the Mark Wallis kennels and beaten by a total of three lengths, was just €1,000.
