CURROW CURRANS

-

LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB

Our Minor team who are joined with Kilcummin this year played their first game of the year when Kilcummin/Currow faced Annascaul/Castlegregory in the County League on Monday April 8th in Kilcummin. Our girls got off to a slow start and trailed by 1-03 to no score after 10 minutes, but they then went on a scoring spree to lead at half time 2-07 to 1-06. It was a great game of football with some great scores and it continued in the same vein in the second half.

Annascaul/Castlegregory went into a 4 point Lead with 10 minutes to go only for our girls to level the game with 5 minutes to go but Annascaul/Castlegregory went on to score two more points to run out winners 6-09 to 5-11.

Maeve Crowley, Anna Lee Crowley, Aisling O’Neill, Laura Daly, Jasmine O’Sullivan and Amber Foley were the Currow Girls on the KIlcummin/Currow Team.

By coincidence on Thursday last April 11th our U16 Girls played Kilcummin in the East Kerry League in Kilcummin and after a very sporting and entertaining game Kilcummin ran out winners 6-05 to 3-08.

On Sunday, April 14th our Senior Ladies team began their Credit Union Donal Curtin Cup campaign with a win over Milltown/Castlemaine in Currow. Currow were always on top in this game and lead 2-02 to 0-02 at half time with Michela Breen and Rosie Scanlon scoring our goals and Michela and Gillian Hannifin scoring points.

Our girls started strongly in the second half and added two more goals by Rosie Scanlon and Colleen Breen before Milltown registered two points. We added four more points from Michela Breen, Colleen Breen and Rosie Scanlon (2), but finally after having an outstanding game our goalie Maeve Crowley and backs who played brilliantly as a unit were beaten as Milltown scored a goal in the final minute to leave the final score Currow 4-06 Milltown/Castlemaine 1-04.

Our Senior team will be at home to Beale in round 2 of the Credit Union Donal Curtin Cup on Sunday next April 21st at 11.a.m.
